God cannot forgive sin
Job 8:3 “Doth God pervert judgment? or doth the Almighty pervert justice?”
God cannot pervert judgment by letting sinners go free. His law says in Romans 6:23 that the wages of sin is death, and in
Romans 3:23 it says we have all sinned. In order for God to be just, we must be put to death because of our sin. God cannot
forgive our sin. He can forgive us for committing sin, but the sin itself cannot be forgiven, because God cannot go against His
own law.
Let’s say you’re a parent and you’re in a furniture store with your two kids. You’re looking at tables and couches and thinking
about different furniture you’d like to have in your house. Your kids however are goofing around and playing games, so you ask
them to settle down. You continue looking at furniture while your kids continue clowning around and they end up knocking over a
lamp stand, breaking a lamp. You’re going to get onto your kids pretty hard about it when you get home, right? But when they
come up to you and they’re all humble and tears in their eyes, sorry for what they’ve done, are you going to forgive them? Of
course you are, but is their humbleness going to pay for that lamp?
You see, the wages of sin is death. God can forgive you for committing the sin, but He still must receive payment for what you
have done. When you broke God’s law Jesus had to pay for it by taking your debt upon Himself and being put to death in your
place. Jesus was a sacrifice for your sin. If you would like to now how this sacrifice was made
