Partiality
How do you treat other people? You know, the kid at school that never plays sports because he is always too
busy studying and sharpening his number 2 pencils? Or the one who is overweight and takes the entire lunch
break to eat and always has food on his face? Do you treat them differently because of the way they are? You
never make fun of them or call them names? Why would you treat people this way just because they are
different then you? They are still a person with feelings no matter how they look or act and you should treat
them in the same way you would treat your family and friends. You should love them the way they are.

James 2:1 “My brethren, do not hold the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with partiality.”

We are not to have partiality with anyone for any reason. This means we cannot treat others differently than
anyone else. Think about the way you treat people. Not just everyday people, what about people who don’t like
you? Being nice to people who are nice to you is one thing, but what about the way you treat your enemies?

Jesus said in Luke 6:32-33 “But if you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners
love those who love them. And if you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? For even
sinners do the same.”

So being nice to those who are nice to you makes you no better than a worldly person. A Christian must love
and do good to everyone, even their enemies.

Jesus said in Matthew 5:44 “But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to
them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you.”

How do you treat your enemies? Let’s say you don’t necessarily have any enemies. How would you treat a
person who called you names? A worldly person would start calling them names too. They would talk about
them behind their back and spread rumors and lies about them. They would get back at them in all kinds of
ways. Deflating their tires, putting shaving cream all over their car, throwing eggs at their house, probably  even
worse things than that. You might know people that treat others like this and maybe you’ve done things like this
as well, but you cannot continue to treat others the way the world does and call yourself a Christian.

Romans 12:17-18 “Repay to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men. If it be possible,
as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.”

Spreading rumors and lies or putting shaving cream all over someone’s car is not peaceful. Doing these things
only makes the situation worse?

Psalm 37:8 “Don’t get angry. Don’t be upset, it only leads to trouble.”

James 1:20 “For the wrath of man does not produce the righteousness of God.”

Can you see Jesus going and pulling pranks on the people who called Him names and cast stones at Him?
Tying their donkeys legs together; I don’t know what else you would compare deflating tires with, but did Jesus
do anything to get back at the people who did things to Him?

Jesus said in Matthew 5:39 “But I tell you not to resist an evil person. But whoever slaps you on your right
cheek, turn the other to him also.”

Remember, your trying to be an example of Christ. If you show partiality toward people than you must repent
and follow righteousness.
