Our responsibility
Think about your family and friends. Think about people at school or people at work. Do you ever wonder if
they could be headed to hell? Take the vast number of people in this world. Do you ever think about how many
of them have never heard the gospel? How many of them believe themselves to be saved and yet they have
never heard the truth about conversion? Millions of people in this world are on their way to hell.
Imagine this for a moment. You stand before God on judgment day and you look to His right hand and there is
nobody standing there. Then you look to His left and you see all these people crying. Family members, friends,
people you had seen during your life, all standing in the crowd. You think to yourself, “Why are they all crying?”
God hears your thoughts and answers to you, “These are those who never knew Me because you never gave
them the gospel. The old lady you helped across the street, but never gave her the gospel. The homeless man
you gave some money so he could get something to eat, but never gave him the gospel. The kids down the
street that you played ball with, but never gave them the gospel. All of these people standing at the left hand of
God to be cast into the lake of fire because you never did what God had called you to do. A thought that
makes me tremble. To think that every person I ever came in contact with after being saved was only there for
the purpose that I might give them the gospel. This is our responsibility as Christians. We are to be servants of
God and preach the gospel so people can be saved.
Jesus said in Mark 15:16, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.”
Jesus is not asking us to go preach the gospel, He is commanding us to go preach the gospel. He wasn’t just
talking to preachers, He was talking to everyone. The bible tells us in Acts 10:42 that we are all commanded to
preach the gospel. This is not a hobby. This is not your preachers job. This is a commandment from God for all
of us to reach the lost. And beside the fact that it is a commandment, you should feel the need to preach to
everyone you come in contact with, because chances are they are headed to hell.
There are millions of people that are spiritually blind and do not realize that they are lost. Imagine that you can
see all of these lost people blindly walking toward hell. One by one they fall into the lake of fire. You hear them
screaming and crying in pain. Every second that goes by, more and more people fall into the lake of fire.
Knowing that the gospel can open their eyes, would you just sit there and do nothing?
Have you ever done a favor for someone by telling them something that they didn’t know? Something that
saved them time or money? Something that helped them gain knowledge? Maybe even something that could
have saved their life? When you hear your friends talking about wanting to buy something at a store and you
know that they can save money if they shop at a different store, you tell them about it, right? Or if they are
complaining about the traffic after work and you know of a route that will save them time getting home, you
would tell them wouldn’t you? We tell people what works better, what taste better, what costs less, and what is
easier. We recommend certain things and warn against others. So if you would do these things to save people
time, money, or trial and error, wouldn’t you want to tell them something that could save them from hell?
What about those who know that they’re lost, but cannot find their way around? When you was a little kid, did
you ever get lost? Maybe at the store when you wandered off from your parents and looked back and they
were gone. You suddenly began to panic. Looking around, you could start to feel your heart beat. You almost
began to cry, but then from the next isle you heard your mom calling your name. You ran over to the next isle
and stayed close to your parents, and did not wander around by yourself anymore. Let’s say you remained lost
for a while. Would you not have given anything for someone to point you in the direction where your parents
were? Would you not have been comforted by someone holding your hand until you found your parents?
Chances are you wouldn’t have gone to anyone for help, but you would have waited for someone to come to
you. Think about how people feel when they realize they’re lost and they become worried. They need someone
to point them in the right direction. They need someone to comfort them until they get back on their feet again.
Chances are they’re not going to come to you, so are you willing to go to them?
You don’t have to be a preacher or a youth leader to make a difference in peoples lives. You can make a
difference just by preaching the gospel. God has given you a talent and you can use that talent to reach the
lost. If you play basketball, go to the court and reach the lost. If you skateboard, go to the skate park and reach
the lost. If you snowboard, if you surf, motocross, bmx, golf, tennis, even just going bowling, whatever you do,
reach the people around you. Use every opportunity you have to reach the lost. Get a group of people
together and go to events in your area such as car shows, fairs or any type of public gathering. Hand out tracts
or talk to people about Jesus. You can’t afford to put this off, because millions of people are headed to hell. Do
everything you can to reach the them. You might not even have a chance to reach everyone you love before it’
s too late. You can make a difference! Be a witness!
