Abiding in Christ
Jesus said in John 15:4 “Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in
the vine; no more can you, except you abide in me."

You need Jesus in your life in order to continue in His commands. Without Him, you will not be able to stand
strong in the trials and temptations that will come your way. You can’t say, “Thanks Jesus for helping me up,
but I’ll do fine on my own now.”

Jesus said in John 15:5 “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much
fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.”

Saying that you can make it on your own without Jesus is like saying you can water ski without a boat. It’s not
going to work. When you water ski, you hold onto the handle and the boat will pull you through the water to
keep you from sinking. When you run this race you must hold onto Jesus and He will pull you through all the
trials to keep you from falling.

Lets say you’re water skiing and you see a sand barge ahead, so the boat steers off to the side. Now to keep
from getting into shallow water, you would hold onto the handle so the boat will pull you through the turn. If you
let go you head straight into the sand barge, right? I mean, I’m no expert, but common sense tells me I’m right
on this one. So lets say you’re following Jesus and you’ve committed your life to keeping His commands. You
see some old friends and they ask you to go to a party with them. They are now the sand barge and because
you are following righteousness, you must steer away from the party by holding onto Jesus. If you let go of
Jesus you’ll end up at that party. So no matter what comes up in your life, hold onto Jesus and He will pull you
through anything.
